Bye bye Mac

Sadly I think my days of being an Apple user are coming to an end. I have to buy a new computer soon and during my research I have found that Dells are half the price for the same hard drive and memory. I can no longer ignore this fact and continue to buy the Apple computers for twice the cost. It's such a painful realization to come to and one that makes me feel like I'm turning my back on the design world.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for this.

Noooo, don't do it.

Please promise me you'll go into the computer shop and play around with Windows OS before making so hasty a decision.

You'll pay less now, but you'll end up paying more when you decide to go back to Mac in 6 months.

what about the new mac that's less than $1,000? or is that just a laptop? can you work with a laptop or do you need a desktop?

I'm leaning towards a laptop.

But I got great news today...you can buy refurbished Apple's directly from Apple!! They are about 20% cheaper that way. This opened up my eyes to the world of refurbished electronics. And I'm loving it!

As a simple-minded non-computer guy, whats the big difference? I've long heard of the 'rivalry' between PC & Mac but never understood why.
Is there a clear difference? Wouldn't you want to buy the best item for your dollar?

So I'm just gonna assume its a 'cosmetic' difference.

Enjoy your new PC.

Lee, many would argue that "you get what you pay for" with Apples and PCs. Apples are believed to be the the superior operating machine...never 'freezing' or having other mishaps.

Ever laptop I've had that has failed is due to my own stupidly throwing it around. My parents still have and frequently use my PC from college, with the only problems being its like 10 years old. Longevity is not an issue, its the user.

As for the interface, Apple's OS makes me want to pull my hair out. So to each his own.

And that's what it comes down to, what feels comfortable to you

...well, that, and even refurbed, Macs are too damn expensive for just getting a nice shiny white casing.

Ok, that's it from your PC-hugging boyfriend, haha.

I believe the only people who really need an Apple are people who do memory-eating graphics and video editing work. For example, the new Powerbooks have TWO video cards. This could contribute to the price. This is why Apple's have been linked to the design community.

People who only need to check email, use the internet, or use Word should stick to a PC. I have found that I'm one of those people...

...at least in my home life.
