About a week ago my friend Olivia and I joined a nearby YMCA. I really felt like I needed to be doing something to move my body and to work some more exercise into my day. I started looking into the Y when I realized that I was interested in swimming. Swimming has been an exercise that kind of runs in the family. My dad and my aunt have turned to swimming to help with back pain...something I may be experiencing in the future due to my scoliosis. With no contracts, the only indoor pool in the area, access to all the classes (including yoga, pilates, and spinning) and $47 a month membership...I couldn't go wrong. Plus it's less than half a mile from my house!
I'm really enjoying being in the water and using the kickboard to strengthen my legs. It's WAY better than running and it's great for your joints. I think I've finally found an exercise routine I can get into and enjoy. Tomorrow we will be trying the water conditioning class where I think we will be treading water for an hour straight. It's gonna kick our butts.

when we left the Y last night I really thought I hadn't pushed myself enough when swimming laps. My legs were tired but I wasn't sore, like I would get when working out on a treadmill or something.
Boy was I wrong!! I can't believe how fatigued and sore my muscles are today! it's great! can't wait for tonight's class! :)
After a few laps, how about a nice bowl of sweet potato and butternut squash soup: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/20/health/nutrition/20recipehealth.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
